A 6.4 magnitude earthquake strikes Nepal, causing vibrations in the Delhi-NCR area.
On Friday night, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Nepal, causing severe vibrations in northern India, particularly the Delhi-NCR area, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. The earthquake struck at 11:32 p.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
According to authorities at Nepal's National Earthquake Measurement Centre, the epicentre of the earthquake occurred in the Lamidanda region of the Jajarkot district.
The earthquake on Friday was the latest in a string of tremors detected in the Delhi-NCR region.
A magnitude 6.1 earthquake rocked Nepal just a few days ago, on October 22. The epicentre of the earthquake occurred in Dhading, and the vibrations were felt across the Delhi-NCR region.
Tremors from a 3.1 magnitude earthquake that rocked Haryana were also felt in the Delhi-NCR region on October 15.
Prior to that, on October 3, severe tremors were reported in numerous regions of northern India, including Delhi and its surrounding territories, following a series of earthquakes that rattled Nepal in a matter of hours. The most powerful registered 6.2 on the Richter scale.
According to Ajay Paul, a seismologist who previously worked at the Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, the epicenter of the earthquake on Friday happened in Nepal near the location of the October 3 quakes. He recognized the region as Nepal's central belt, which has "active energy releasing sectors."
He went on to say that people should stay attentive and prepared.
